The Washington Attorney General, Bob Ferguson, heard about the story and on his own initially sent a letter to Barronelle asking that she agree to design flowers for same-sex weddings. Less than two weeks later the Attorney General sued Barronelle. Shortly after Rob Ingersoll, who had requested the flowers, also sued. Several months later, Barronelle also filed a countersuit against the State of Washington to claim financial damages caused by the lawsuit. Eventually the lawsuits were consolidated into one.
